Critical race theory — it’s not just for law schools anymore! And as this radical leftist indoctrination program receives more scrutiny, it is becoming evident that it was never exclusively taught in law schools. The latest example involves a school district in Poway, California, a city about 22 miles northeast of San Diego. Leaked emails show that Poway Unified School District is using critical race theory.
The school district’s Equity Advisory Committee recently held a meeting in which there was a presentation about critical race theory. The leaked email was from Shawntanet Jara, the director of equity and improvement for Poway Unified School District. It included a request from one committee member who asked if they could gather outside of school “to discuss the topic of CRT as a follow-up to the presentation.” The email was sent from Jara’s Poway Unified School District email address on Tuesday, April 12, 2022.
The email also acknowledged a different committee member who was a co-presenter for “the CRT presentation last month.” Jara then provided a list of additional resources and recommended videos and literature to learn more about CRT.
The recommended list reads like a radical left-wing indoctrination guide. It included numerous articles and videos featuring Kimberle Crenshaw, UCLA and Columbia Law School professor and noted critical race theory enthusiast. Additionally, the work of Gloria Ladson-Billings, an “American pedagogical theorist” and educator, is featured. Ladson-Billings is also the author of Critical Race Theory in Education: A Scholar’s Journey. It also suggested other resources that explained and advocated CRT.
However, CRT is not supposed to be taught in the Poway Unified School District. In fact, the presence of this email allegedly contradicts previous statements of denial from the school district.
“Poway Unified vehemently denies its engagement with CRT. Yet its newly hired Director of Equity and Improvement has assigned 12 CRT readings for a committee that’s slated to make recommendations on the district’s racial equity and inclusion programming,” Wenyuan Wu, executive director of the Californians for Equal Rights Foundation, told me. “The programming itself, as shown by the official website, is full of woke jargons and CRT codenames.”
“It raises the question, why is the school district conducting a deep dive into CRT if it’s just taught in law schools and not being used in the school district’s curriculum?” Wu said.
I emailed Shawntanet Jara to discuss the leaked email but received an automated reply that she was out of the office from April 18 to 22.
The leaked emails are the latest revelation on how school districts throughout the country are using CRT. The materials are distributed to teachers who use them to brainwash students with a fanatical, left-wing, frenzied version of history. It focuses on creating resentment toward white people about events that occurred decades and centuries ago and making white students feel guilty about their skin color as if they are somehow responsible for every societal sin in the country’s history.
CRT supporters know the basis of the program is rooted in the ideological indoctrination that they subscribe to, so they see it as teaching facts. And while they believe this propaganda, they know it is controversial, and they are secretive about its implementation. That is why there is widespread denial of CRT and why so many supporters are eager to hide the fact it is in schools.
